Come and learn what life as a PhD candidate is like.
Meet your fellow PhD candidates and get to know the people from various support offices who will be there to help you throughout your doctoral journey.

Get oriented in the new structure of doctoral studies at UCT Prague!

  • What are your obligations during the PhD?
  • What is expected from you and how can you prepare?
  • What are the financial opportunities?
  • What do projects, mentoring, and soft skills courses involve?
  • What other opportunities does UCT Prague offer?

You’ll be introduced to all available support departments and the offices that organize support activities and courses:


PROGRAMME

9:00–9:50      The Electronic PhD Guide TeamIng. Petra Špringer Šimonová *

Everything you need to know about doing a PhD at UCT Prague – all in one place. Website, guide, seminars, and support from those who are going through it themselves.

9:50–10:10      PhD Office – Mgr. Mili Losmanová, PhD Support *

We will introduce you to transferable skills courses, consultation opportunities called PhD Open Hours, the Adaptation Plan for newly enrolled doctoral candidates, the Internal Grant Agency (IGA, Mgr. Veronika Popová), essential documents, and other available support options during your studies.

* For this part of the program (9:00 - 10:10), come with your supervisor

10:10–10:40      Open discussion with current doctoral candidates

10:40–11:00      Data Stewardship Team – Ing. Martin Schatz, Ph.D. and Data Stewards

Come and find out how to keep your research data under control and make the most of it.

BREAK – 15 min

11:15–11:30      International Relations Office – Bc. Lenka Polanská

We will present funding opportunities for both long-term and short-term stays abroad, including grants provided by the university and where to look for other sources of financial support. You will learn how to apply, the best timing for your application, and where to find internship offers.

11:30–11:45      HR Department – Ing. Simona Pavelková

For PhD employees, we will introduce the available training courses, as well as opportunities to make use of benefits and discounts for cultural events.

11:45–12:15      Welcome Office – Ing. Anna Mittnerová and Ing. Alena Stavinohová, M.Sc. 

We will introduce the role of Welcome Office and explain which services it provides to foreign researchers at UCT – for example helping with administrative matters connected to residence permits, relocation to the Czech Republic, concluding employment contracts, reporting changes to the Ministry, advice on health insurance etc.

LUNCH BREAK – 1 hour

13:30 – 15:00     Workshop “Roadmap to PhD” – Mgr. Jan Froněk, Ph.D., Academic Coach:

Start your PhD with clarity and confidence. This workshop will help you map your personal PhD trajectory – from goal setting and identifying key milestones to tackling challenges and building helpful habits. You will:

  • Clearly define your goal
  • Identify internal and external barriers
  • Understand what you still need to work on
  • Discover who can support you on your path

Create a visual map to help you stay on course.
The session includes personal reflection and (optional) group discussion.

BREAK – 20 min

15:20–15:40      Counselling and Career Centre – Ing. Zuzana Jalovcová / Ing. Jan Hajíček

Discover the available forms of support for your wellbeing – from psychological counselling and relaxation techniques to other tools for mental health. Learn about the personal and professional development opportunities offered by the university, such as mentoring or themed workshops, and explore ways to connect with the job market and potential employers.

15:40–16:00      National Library of Technology – Ing. Naděžda Firsová, Ph.D.

We will introduce you to our range of services that will be useful throughout your research career – all available to you for free, right at your fingertips or just one click away.

  • Adaptation plan
  • “Survival Guide: 15 Tips for Navigating Your PhD” leaflet
  • A timeline of your PhD journey – clearly defined responsibilities and the ideal timing for completing them
  • A list of all transferable skills courses available to doctoral candidates at UCT Prague
